Players gain or lose points depending who they play, and whether they win or lose. A player's match result can fall into four categories:
- Expected Win: The winner had more points at the start of the match compared to the loser
- Unexpected Win: The winner had fewer points at the start of the match compared to the loser
- Expected Loss: The loser had fewer points at the start of the match compared to the winner
- Unexpected Loss: The loser had more points at the start of the match compared to the winner
